I’m Loni and would love to share some info about Charlie’s Farm. “Moo-Nay” is the first book of eight in a series introducing art appreciation through rhyme which encourages children’s imaginations to soar. Key elements of art are highlighted by a different animal or bird along with an art master. Throughout each book, structured literacy components for basic reading skills have included oral language, phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
The coordinated Lesson Plans are designed for each specific grade level of TK/K, 1, and 2/3, and align with Common Core Standards in Reading, Listening, and Speaking, as well as California VAPA Standards. Additionally, each of the grade levels includes ELL support and a cross-curricular activity guide linking either Social Science or Science.
For our presentation, you may be wondering, “So, who exactly is Moo-Nay?” We call her by her nickname “Moo,” and she is a whimsical cow who paints with her tail and wonders if the Impressionist painter Claude Monet is just like her. Our presentation includes not only reading, but also debuts an original song. We feel strongly that audience participation is key! Award-winning folk singer Hedges Capers composed our song, “Do the Moo!” which will have everyone—including teachers and you—dancing and singing! We hope our presentation to your students will encourage them and pique their interest to learn even more.
In addition to our reading presentations, we are available to provide a Professional Development program for teachers in order to extend the lesson plans and enrichment activities. As former teachers, Coco and I can share alternative ways these plans might be modified, allowing teachers to create individual instruction based on what best meets their students’ needs and abilities—perhaps for the areas of Special Education or for ELL programs. Please reach out to us with any questions and have a Mooooo-velous day!
